Website builder blocks

See what each of the 22 builder blocks does and find the guide for it.

How blocks work

Every page is a stack of blocks. You add them from the Add blocks panel on the left side of the builder, where they're grouped into three kinds:

  • Layout blocks arrange other blocks: side by side, behind a title residents click, or split by a line.
  • Content blocks hold content you write or pick: text, photos, tables, links and chosen posts or events.
  • Dynamic blocks fill themselves from elsewhere in Peny, such as your latest posts, upcoming events, staff directory, maps, polls and forms. They stay up to date on their own.

Add a block

  1. Open the page in the builder.
  2. In Add blocks, find the block, or type its name in Search blocks.
  3. Drag the block onto the page, or click it to add it after the selected block.
  4. Click the pencil (Edit) to fill it in, and use the Settings panel on the right for its look.

Layout blocks

  • Container — puts blocks side by side in up to four columns or a sidebar layout, with optional padding, border and background.
  • Collapsible — a titled section residents click to open and close, good for FAQs and long details.
  • Divider — a horizontal line that separates blocks, in a solid, dashed or thick style.

Content blocks

  • Rich Text — formatted text with headings, lists, links, tables, images and links to your documents.
  • Hero — the title band at the top of a page, with a subtitle and a background photo.
  • Quick Actions — up to 8 icon tiles that send residents to common tasks.
  • Table — rows and columns of text, dates and links, such as a meeting schedule or a fee list.
  • Image(s) — one photo or a gallery of photos, each with its own alt text.
  • Document Links — a list of links to documents or pages, which you can sort into groups.
  • CTA Card — one call-to-action card with a title, a short description, a link and an icon or photo.
  • Static Post(s) — posts you choose, shown in the order you pick them.
  • Static Event(s) — events you choose, shown in the order you pick them.

Dynamic blocks

  • Recent Posts — your city's latest published posts, updated automatically.
  • Recent Events — your upcoming published events, updated automatically.
  • Calendar — a month calendar of your events, with an optional list of the month's events.
  • Combined Posts/Events — recent posts and upcoming events together in one block. On the canvas and in the Layers list it's called Community Highlights.
  • Contact Card — one staff member's contact card from your staff directory.
  • Department Card — a department's details from your staff directory.
  • Staff Section — cards for everyone in a department or division of your staff directory.
  • Map — one of your city's public maps, shown view-only on the page.
  • Poll — a poll residents can answer right on the page.
  • Form — one of your published forms, which residents fill in without leaving the page.

Contact Card, Department Card, Staff Section, Map, Poll and Form appear only when those features are on for your city.
