Calendar block

Show your events on a month calendar residents can page through.

What it's for

The Calendar block shows your city's published events on a month grid. It always opens on the current month, and residents can move to earlier or later months. Use it on an events page, a parks and recreation page, or a meetings page with a topic filter.

Add it to a page

Who can do this: City admins, in the website builder.

  1. In the left sidebar, open Content › City Pages.
  2. Find the page and click Edit. The page opens in the builder.
  3. In the Add blocks panel on the left, find Calendar under Dynamic. You can also type "Calendar" in Search blocks.
  4. Drag Calendar onto the page where you want it. Or select the block it should follow and click Calendar to add it right below — with nothing selected, it goes at the end of the page.
  5. The new block is selected and its settings appear in the Settings panel on the right.
  6. In the Settings panel, choose whether to show the Month event list.
  7. To add a heading or a topic filter, click Edit settings in the Settings panel (or double-click the block), fill in the fields and click Save.
  8. Your changes save as a draft as you go. Residents see them after you click Publish — or Ready for review, if your city reviews page changes.

Settings

In the side panel

  • Month event list — Show (default) or Hide. Shows a list of the month's events under the calendar, on computers and phones.
  • Heading alignment — Left (default), Center or Right.

In the Edit popup

  • Heading (optional) — A heading above the calendar, such as "Community calendar".
  • Topics (optional) — Show only events about the topics you pick; one that matches any of them is shown. Leave it empty to show all events. This field appears only when your city uses custom topics (the Topics tab in account settings). Don't see this? It may not be turned on for your city yet — email support@penyapp.com.

What residents see

  • The current month, with ‹ and › buttons to go to the previous or next month and a Today button to come back. Residents can page up to two years either way.
  • On computers: each day lists up to three events by time. When a day has more, a button like "+2 more" shows the rest.
  • On phones: days with events have a dot; tapping a day lists its events below the calendar.
  • The month event list (if shown) under the calendar.
  • Cancelled events stay on the calendar, crossed out and marked Cancelled.
  • A View all events button that opens your city's events list.

A month with no events still shows the calendar, with "No events this month."

Tips

  • Use one Calendar per page. It's large; pair it with a short Rich Text intro rather than other event blocks.
  • Hide the month event list on busy pages to keep the page shorter.
  • Use topics to make a focused calendar, such as public meetings only.
  • Check phones: click the Mobile preview button above the canvas.
